The Meter Specialist (MS) tests, repairs, and calibrates large water meters (3" and larger) for accuracy and proper function. Performs these functions include testing, calibrating, troubleshooting, and repairing meters; operates valves as needed. Inspects vaults and bypasses, orders and maintains meter parts inventory, maintains and updates maintenance records for large meters. The MS is required to work outside of the home district, including overnight stays. The position is located in San Mateo, CA.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Apply knowledge of water meter operations, installations, and functions to diagnose, troubleshoot; test meters onsite via a certified, calibrated test meter to determine the accuracy of the installed meter.
- Operate and utilize required technology for calibration of meters.
- Repair meter as needed to bring the meter to a functional capacity compliant with CPUC General Order 103-A.
- Operate valves as needed to isolate, inspect, test, and repair meters.
- Assist with replacement of meters.
- Repair or replace meter reading technology installed on the meter.
- Follow AWWA standards for sanitary and material storage handling, installation, and disinfection.
- Create daily schedules and prioritize work orders.
- Prepare required reporting of work completed.
- Use software systems and technology to capture, record, and report all work.
- Maintain and update maintenance records.
- Order, stock, and maintain meter parts inventory.
- Communicate with district staff and supervisor and complete reports and daily progress.
- Communicate with contractors and vendors.
- Conduct all water discharges with the National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) policy including, but not limited to, implementation of Best Management Practices (BMPs), monitoring and recording all required data, and completing necessary paperwork related to all discharge events.
- Performs work on site at assigned location.
- Performs other similar duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- The MS must be able to effectively communicate with their supervisor, co-workers and the public.
- Have the ability to calculate figures and amounts; have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures or governmental regulations; write routine reports and correspondence.
- Must possess a High School diploma or equivalent, possess a valid California Class C Driver's license, and be insurable under the Company's policy.
- The MS must have an understanding and knowledge of basic computer operations including familiarity with Microsoft Suite (Word, Outlook, and Excel) and computerized maintenance management system.
- Must be able to work independently and effectively, with little supervision, to prioritize and complete assigned objectives and determine the best method and sequencing of work.
- The MS must have an understanding and knowledge of meter functions, diagnostics, installation, and repair procedures to replace, repair, or troubleshoot meter and meter reading technology problems.
- The job entails an understanding and knowledge of water quality specifications for chlorine content, pH, water temperature, other essential water quality parameters, as well as National Pollutant Discharge Elimination Systems (NPDES) rules and regulations.
- A California State Water Distribution Operator II certification is required.
- The MS must meet TMM LOU Minimum Qualifications dated 1/17/20.
Salary Range:
Step 1 - $45.39 - (Starting)
Step 2 - $46.58 - (6 months)
Step 3 - $47.90 - (12 months)
Step 4 - $51.03 - (18 months)
