Job Description
At the retail location, interprets physician prescriptions and medication orders. Compounds and dispenses prescribed medications and other pharmaceuticals and related products for patient care by performing related duties. Acts as a drug information resource for the general public and physicians and other healthcare professionals. Position reports to the Chief Clinical Officer.
Essential Duties
- Provides pharmaceutical care to all ages of patients from newborns to the elderly. Understands that there are dosage variations between newborn, pediatric, adult and geriatric patients, and knows where to find appropriate information.
- Supervises pharmacy staff: pharmacy technician, billing clerk.
- Monitors all postings onto the patient profiles in the computer system. Ensures accuracy and that drug allergies, drug interactions, duplicate therapy, rational drug therapy and incompatibilities may be realized and better patient care received.
- Endorses policies and procedures of the retail pharmacy.
- Maintains established procedures concerning quality control, security of controlled substances and disposal of hazardous waste.
- Participates in the 340B program, antibiotic stewardship, pharmacy and therapeutics meetings and any other meetings involving pharmacy.
- Stays current in the pharmaceutical field through continuing education, conferences, professional journals and societies.
